Climate Justice walkers brave heat in Day 3 of Climate Walk 92

KOLAMBUGAN, Lanao del Norte - Day three of seven of the 92-kilometer Climate Walk and Coal Resistance March commenced at Dapit-Alim where more than a hundred climate justice walkers coming from different parts of Mindanao braved the heat on the morning of July 21.
"The amount of support we get from the local government units [of Lanao del Norte] and even the locals are very inspiring and overwhelming", said CoRe Movement head secretariat Vhong Fenis adding that, "the only challenge left now is to consolidate that support and materialize it".
First pit stop of the day took place at the Kolambugan Municipal Hall where a short presentation of position papers by the different participating organization were read.
The event was graced by Mayor of Kolambugan, Honorable Lorenzo Mañegos. "We should protect the environment since this is not just for us but for the rest of humanity", said Mañegos.
Student participant of Mindanao State University, Jam Caylan believes that even if the 540 megawatt coal fired-power plant in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte is already under conatruction, she believes there is a chance to halt the construction by pressuring the provincial government through this walk.
Day one took place at Maranding, Lanao del Norte on July 19 where an overview of the Philippine Climate Justice struggle was presented to the walkers.
Day two's first pit stop happened at the Municipal Hall of Baroy. Second stop took place at the Provincial Capitol at Tubod where it was graced by Board Member Omar Usop who expressed his support and even vowed to take back the Environmental Compliance
Certificate of the 540mw coal project oin Kauswagan guaranteeing its halt.
Climate Walk 92 is a coal resistance march organized by different civil society organizations in Lanao del Norte collectively known as Coal Resistance Movement with partner organization Philippine Movement for Climate Justice-Western Mindanao.
