92KM Climate Walk
Alarmed of the proliferation of coal projects in Mindanao and the Philippines despite the Renewable Energy Source/s potentials of the country, a thousand individuals will conquer the roads in North-western Mindanao to protest.
In Northern Mindanao, Lafarge Cement Corporation is applying to build a 20 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Kiwalan, Iligan City while the Ozamis Power Generation Incorporated is also proposing to build a 300 MW coal plant in Brgy. Pulot, Ozamis City. The biggest plant among the three is the one being constructed between Brgy. Tacub and Brgy. Libertad in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte which has a generation capacity of about 540 megawatt.
As a show of opposition aside from Petitions and Appeals, the Coal Resistance Movement organized a 92KM Climate Walk from Lala, Lanao del Norte to Iligan City starting 20th of July 2015.
The Climate Walk is to be participated by delegations from Misamis Occidental led by Philippine Mvement for Climate Justice – Western Mindanao Region; Alliance of Rural and Urban Poor (AKLAS) from Iligan City; Lanao Fisheries Advocacy Network (LFAN) and Demokratikong Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (DKMP)- Lanao from Lanao del Norte; Kilusang Maralita sa Kanayunan Regional and Provincial Chapters; a youth delegations from LIga ng Makabagong Kabataan from Lanao del Norte and Sur; and delegations from Maguindanao and Cotabato City KILOS BAYAN and Mindanao Tri-People Women Forum.
