STATEMENT: Defend Our Dreams! Defend Our Common Home! -SOFWC

(A Statement from Society of OFW Children (SOFWC) on the EcoWalk and the Struggle for Humanity and Environment)
Why do we have/need to conduct this Ecowalk?
Climate change, familiar words to us. If we heard Climate change, it can cause disasters such as drought, El NiƱo, forest fires, flooding and other natural calamities. This is the most deadly threat that humanity is faced with – Mindanao alone is faced with these kinds of disasters and the impacts are not selective to economic status. However, the poor people, vulnerable sectors like women, children, elderly, and Indigenous people are the most affected.
The struggle against climate change is not just a struggle for survival. It is a struggle for human rights for justice and peace, for a good quality of life for all people in harmony with nature and we have to make more than extra efforts here.
As children of Overseas Filipino Workers whose parents are working hard for our future, we cannot allow that those efforts would turn into nothing after destructions hit our communities – the Earth.
We are co-organizing and are joining the ECOWALK: A Walk for Humanity and Environment on the 28th of November 2015 from Nuro Upi Maguindanao up to City plaza of Cotabato with our fellow young people as one of our commitment standing for our generation and the coming ones.
All together let us demand and work for a society making environment and human rights must be center to all development efforts; Support and join the worldwide campaign for climate change justice; bring to the general public the Climate issues around us; and Promote Social Justice and Peace among people defending our Common Home..
Let us Defend Our Common Home – Earth!
“The best richness is the richness of the soul”
-Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
MAY ALLAH GUIDES US ALL THE WAY AND KEEP US SAFE. AMEEN.
